Building Box & CodeCrew bring tech education to Soulsville's Chandler Park November 27th to December 12th! Students in grades 3-12 are welcome to participate in an after school program where they will learn computer science concepts to use with the latest technology. 

Class times are: 

  • Mondays 3:45-5:00p for grades 3-5
  • Tuesdays 3:45-5:00p for grades 6-12

On Saturdays, the organizations will also offer Drone Programming Competitions. Middle & high school students will spend two consecutive Saturdays learning to program drones to perform various tricks! To allow more students to experience this opportunity, there will be three separate cohorts for this opportunity so choose the cohort that meets your availability. Students can participate in both the after school programming on Tuesdays and the Drone Programming Competition. 

  • Class 1: November 11th & 18th 10:00a-1:00p
  • Class 2: December 2nd & 9th 10:00a-1:00p

TigerCrew Showcase - Fall 2017

On Saturday, December 2, 2017 1:00-2:30pm, high school game developers will present their uniquely designed games at the TigerCrew Showcase: Fall 2017 held at CLOUD901 in the Benjamin Hooks Central Library. This event is open to all kids and adults interested in seeing the games our students have created over the semester.

CodeCrew Hour of Code

CodeCrew Hour of Code

CodeCrew students are joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code!  This FREE EVENT hosted at CLOUD901 is the finale to another semester of coding!  This unique event provides an opportunity for kids to be introduced to games that help students pratice coding skills and concepts.

About Hour of Code

Computers are everywhere, but fewer schools teach computer science than 10 years ago. Good news is, we’re on our way to change this. If you've heard about the Hour of Code before, you might know it made history with more than 100 million students that have partcipated. Last year, nearly 50 CodeCrew students participated!

CodeCrew Robotics Class

CodeCrew Robotics Class

Join CodeCrew for a semester of coding!  

The Robotics Class is for students who have participated in one of our previous semesters or have some previous coding experience. (Students with no coding experience or who have not participated in a CodeCrew semester program should sign up for our Mobile App Development Class. Students who have participated in more than two previous semesters of CodeCrew or who have more coding experience should look into our Circuit Boards Class!)

Students will learn intermediate level design and programming of mobile and web applications using MIT's AppInventor platform and integrating that with Lego Mindstorms EV3. 

Grizzlies Code Camp details:

  • Level: Intermediate. Students who have completed at least one semester with us or who have some coding expereince are encouraged to join.
  • Start date: January 16, 2018
  • End date: May 15, 2018
  • Meeting times: Tuesdays 4:30-6:00pm
  • Location: Lester Community Center, 317 Tillman St., Memphis TN
  • Students: Open to all students in grades 5-12

This class has an administrative fee of $10 per student.  The tuition for the program is free, provided by a full scholarship with completion of the CodeCrew registration form, due on the first day of the program.

CodeCrew Circuit Boards Class

Join CodeCrew for another semester of coding!

The Circuit Boards class is for students who have participated in at least three of our previous semesters or who have advanced coding knowledge. (Students who are are at least 13 years old should also consider applying to TigerCrew, our video game development course!)

Students will learn advanced level design and programming of circuit boards to meet a challenge. 

CodeCrew Circuit Boards Class details:

  • Level: Advanced. Students who have completed three semesters with CodeCrew or who have extensive coding expereince are encouraged to join. 
  • Start date: January 17, 2018
  • End date: May 16, 2018
  • Meeting times: Wednesday 4:30-6:00pm
  • Location: Lester Community Center, 317 Tillman St., Memphis TN
  • Students: Open to all students in grades 6-12

This program has an administrative fee of $10 per student. The tuition for the program is covered by a full scholarship with completion of the CodeCrew registration form, due on the first day of the program.

TigerCrew Game Development - Spring 2018

Open to Boys and Girls Ages 13 to 18!

TIGERCREW

Spend 9 Saturdays learning how to make your own video games using the same game engine as Temple Run and Pokemon Go!

CodeCrew Mobile App Development Class

CodeCrew Mobile App Development Class

Join CodeCrew for a semester of coding!

The Mobile App Developement class is for students who are new to coding. Students who have previous coding experience are welcome to join and should also check out our Robotics or Circuit Boards class! 

Students will learn beginner level design and programming of mobile applications using MIT's AppInventor platform as well as other educational platforms.

Mobile App Development Class details:

  • Level: Beginner. Students who are new to CodeCrew or who have limited coding experience are encouraged to join.
  • Start date: January 22, 2018
  • End date: May 21, 2018
  • Meeting times: Mondays 4:30-6:00pm
  • Location: Lester Community Center, 317 Tillman St., Memphis TN
  • Students: Open to all students in grades 5-12
